Famous for sand and gravel, this upazila also claims excellence in tobacco production. Out of 24,705 hectares of cultivable land, 21,352 hectares are cultivated. 11.35% of the total cultivated land is three-cropped, 62.62% double-cropped and 23% mono-cropped. The total land area per capita is 0.13 hectares and 47% of the total land area is under Eri paddy cultivation. Maize now ranks first among the major cash crops. Corn is the only thing that has changed the economy of this upazila.
